Night at the Museum

SDJA annual gala - this year at the Museum of Natural History.  We were greeted at the door by Teddy Roosevelt, chatted with Amelia Earhart, and posed with a caveman shortly before being eaten by a shark. Very exciting evening!

Sorry, Mr. Rusty

It's the "back up" photo of the day...taken by Swami's.

Turn Yourself Around

It's on a Pepto Bismol pink VW in Encinitas - usually parked in front of the Massage Envy.  I got SO excited the other day to see it because of the bumper sticker that says "Sorry I missed church. I was busy practicing witchcraft and becoming a lesbian",  (a wonderful response to Pat Robertson.). But, the sticker is no more - although I can still see a tiny bit of what's left underneath.  This is cute, but not the same.

Valentine Gelt

Not guilt...GELT.   It always makes me grin and shake my head when I see the matzah at Hanukkah, or boxes of Shabbat candles at Easter. If one didn't know better, one could put out Christmas lights at Easter or colored eggs for St Patricks Day. So, I guess I'll just smile when I see the Hanukkah gelt next to the Valentine candy.

Carlsbad Half

Really, it's my LAST half marathon.  About mile 5, I hit the wall and  wondered why I was doing this again for the 6th time. About mile 8,  my knees and I were walking about half the time but had made the way around the wall. At mile 12, I started to remember the endorphin high at the finish line.  Thanks, Jeanne...see you at the Mud Run!

Pre-Race Carbo Load

Team SDJA (Daniel, Beni and me) at our usual pre-race photos. We decided to eat lunch with some younger team members Daniella and Levy.  Good Luck tomorrow!

IDF Singers

This group of IDF soldiers/singers came from Israel to perform a show for our school.  The dark haired girl in green was also a contestant in the "Israel Idol" competition.

Good Advice

I really don't know how I go through life - I like to think I'm fairly observant, but the last 2 posts have been things I've never noticed, yet walked by a thousand times.  This was seen in a 4th grade classroom at school.

Encinitas Home

Seen  in Encinitas.I drive or run on this street all the time and just noticed the creative use of wood shingles. We might have to copy this one day.

Love Chanel and Dior!

My 50th birthday was quite the 'merveilleuse fĂȘte' - beautifully catered, well attended by my best friends, and all the champagne we could drink.  A marvelous party and a cake worthy of Cake Wars.  Red velvet draped in pink and black, complete with blinking Eiffel Tower, a pink poodle, Chanel bag and Dior perfume - it was stunning and delicious. This is all that was left and I saved them as a reminder of an unforgettable night.

Hoppy Birthday, Brooke!

Giant rooms filled with trampolines and bouncing kids of all sizes. We had a great time springing around with the birthday niece and her jumpy friends.

Pilobolus

I went to see Pilobolus Dance company with Laura at the Birch North Park Theater. Provocative, thoughtful, controlled and sensual - this dance troupe has so much talent and although I didn't actually take this photo, I had to include a picture that shows what Pilobolus is all about. Google some images and see for yourself.

First Chick Party of 2012

It's Jill's birthday and we celebrated at Rimel's and Burlap.  It was fun to see the Chickadees and a good time was had by all.  Thanks Di, Deb, Rhonda, BePo, Janet, Lori and of course - Jill!

Be Happy

We have a season subscription to the North Coast Repertory Theater. It's an intimate theater that holds around 200 patrons. The shows are excellent - we saw "The Lion in Winter" on Thursday and we were riveted. NCRT also hosts local artists in their coffee shop. Leucadia artist John Finkbiner was featured and when we saw this smiling face , we smiled right back.    http://www.northcoastrep.org

His Majesty

Surveying all his land and waiting for someone to wait on him. Such is the life of Darby, the cat.

FREE!

See outside Seaside Market in Cardiff.  Don't get greedy, though; one per customer, please.

Pretty in Pink?

How is this possible? My sister and I have the same sad pink laundry basket for years and we never knew. I saw it sitting on her dining table and in a crazy moment, thought it was mine. I've been thinking it's time to splurge on a new one, but not now. Obviously, sad pink laundry baskets are back in vogue.

Where's Will?

Will went back to Eugene and Darby is confused. He walks in and out of Will's room, looks around, meows a little.  Don't worry, Will - Darby will keep your bed nice and warm until you get back home.

Chick Talk

Drew "Your hair looks different...thicker".
Lee "Thanks, man. I'm growing it out".
Drew " Looks good".

Un Rappel Plaisant

A pleasant reminder...a little city of Eiffel Towers and a picture of our anniversary taken in Paris. Je l'adore!

Down in Front, Please....

Ever since we got our new television, Darby has taken up a new hobby. He especially loves fast moving sports and those commercials with falling snowflakes.

RIP Gabe

Day 3 of the new year and I'm attending a funeral. A charming, sensitive, much loved young man laid to rest by  profoundly sad parents, 6 siblings, numerous friends and family, an entire community of people who loved Gabe. Simply tragic.

DUCKS!

Will is thrilled! He scored a last minute ticket to the Rose Bowl. Great seats, a good friend, and best of all...a WIN! First Rose Bowl win for the Oregon Ducks in 95 years, last game of Will's college career, and finally -bragging rights. What a lucky duck!

New Year - New Pictures

Last year, I meant to take more pictures although not necessarily every day. I did take a LOT of photos, but I missed my "picture of the day" experience. I missed snapping the pictures, I missed having to decide and choose, I missed the commitment, and I missed the prospective and perspective of an entire year of rantings and musings. I can't wait to go where a year of photos will lead me and I'll start at Cardiff Beach at sunset...
